This pen was difficult and time consuming to make. The inlay consists of 24 pieces of stabilized yellow and red Maple wood and white Holly wood, which were tediously assembled to fit into cutouts of the solid barrel. The result was worth it - a fine, very detailed representation of the U.S. Marine emblem wrapping around the entire barrel.
Each of the 24 parts, including the barrel, was laser cut to precise tolerances for a perfect fit. No fillers were used in the assembly process. Stabilizing ensures color stability throughout the entire depth of the pieces and makes them rock hard. The parts are assembled by hand, turned to shape on a lathe, sanded to 600 grit and 6 coats of finish are then applied and polished.
The pen shown is the high quality Sierra twist finished in 24K gold and black. It comes with a Parker style medium ballpoint, black refill available at most office supply stores.
