This pen was difficult and time consuming to make, taking at least 90 minutes to assemble the 24 parts. The inlay consists of stabilized yellow and red Maple wood and white Holly wood and required tweezers and magnifying glass to fit into their proper locations on the solid maple barrel. The result was worth it - a fine, very detailed representation of the U.S. Navy emblem wrapping around the entire pen.

Each part, including the barrel, was laser cut to precise tolerances for a perfect fit. No fillers were used in the assembly process. Stabilizing make the pieces rock hard and ensures color stability throughout their entire depth. After assembly, the barrel is turned to shape on a lathe, sanded to 600 grit and 6 coats of very durable CA finish are then applied, wet sanded and polished to a pleasant sheen.

The pen shown is a high quality Sierra twist finished in 24K gold and trivalent chrome. The photograph does not convey the true beauty of this pen. Included is a Parker style medium ballpoint, black ink cartridge available at most office supply stores.
